I had the opportunity this year to give the awards and accolades to my students at our last Friday flag. I told the students and families about the Artsonia site and all of the contests and exhibits we participated in.
This year, I had 8 students submit art to the Youth Art Month through San Diego Art Educators Association. 4 students had work chosen with 2 receiving and honorable mention and 1 receiving a first place ribbon. The art was on view at the Rose Gallery at Francis Parker School. Super exciting stuff! The First Place Winner was a first grader and her art went on view at Whittier College gallery for the Southern Area competition. As if all if that were not enough, she received a congressional recognition for her work, whew!
The next exhibition we entered was the biennial Young Art program through the San Diego Museum of Art.
I was allowed to enter ten pieces digitally and 6 were chosen for display. It was so much fun for my artists to visit a museum and see their own art on the wall.
One of the students was even invited to come to the museum and speak about his art. I sent him with a set of the Chroma 3D glasses to show people how the art popped off the page.
I held 4 after school art workshops for any child who wanted to come.
7 pieces of art went on view at the San Diego Art Institute.
The fun part was the gallery opening.
To have elementary age kids come to a gallery and see their art hung up in the same space as adult artists was pretty great.
And of course, we entered the San Diego Fair Best of K-6. Every student from grade K-5 has a piece of art or a group piece at the fair this year. Thankful for our foundation for paying the entrance fees for that.
